Mindset and Challenges


It's been far too long since you and I have had a proper natter. I don't know about you, but I feel like it's about time we put our feet up and gossip. The kettle is on (when is it not?) and we can imagine some sort of glorious three tier chocolate cake topped with red berries and whipped cream...perfect! 

What's new with me..hmm, let me think. It's the end of half term here in England which I must say has flown by! I've been to a big jumble sale and bought some vinyl, written a letter to a little girl pretending I am Princess Fiona, walked until my wellies no longer resemble wellies and made a new Oxfam friend (a very old man with a passion for Jane Austen!)


I've been focusing on positive affirmations recently and trying to avoid Facebook which believe it or not, is not one! This is much easier said than done as there are some things, such as Cathy Cassidy's cake breaks and #projectpassiton, that I like to be involved in but others, such as the negativity some people feel the need to publicly broadcast, that just bring me down. I've found, as always, that reading is a great distraction and I have plowed my way through so many books this half term. There was one called Mindset that I downloaded for free on my kindle which is all about positive thinking and freeing the mind. It's a quick read but one that I would recommend if you're into that kind of jazz.

I've felt a bit low at times and have had to be reminded by other people that life will be life and that you simply can't let small hurdles knock you down on the first lap. Some times it only takes a small burden to eat away at you and leave you in pieces. In the words of Avril Lavigne 'you're not alone, together we stand, I'll be by your side, you know I'll take your hand.' 

Some problems seem more trivial or of less importance than others but in reality, any problem is a problem. I know that I've got so many people to turn to but it upsets me to hear that others feel they have nobody. I'm here. Whoever you may be, I am here and if you ever need to talk to somebody, the agony aunt in me is itching to come out haha. 





I suppose it's time to get some last minute revision done and catch up with some errands I never got around to doing in the week. I lead a thrilling life... Thanks so much for letting me use the pictures of our rambles Sam! I can't wait to hear from you all in the comments.

Veganism with Rosie!


First of all, how long have you been a vegan and what drew you to making the big switch?

 I have been vegan for around 10 months now. I was interested in veganism for a while before I made the transition. The thing which drew me towards it, was the environmental impacts, as well as the ethics behind it. I knew quite a lot already, as I had been vegetarian for 5 years, but then I watched Cowspiracy and realised how much I didn't want to contribute to that cruelty and climate change.

Have you faced any setbacks or experienced any negativity along the journey?

I haven't found any personal setbacks thus far; I can almost always find alternatives and vegan recipes. However, I have experienced quite a bit of negativity from other people. My family are really supportive of it, however, quite a lot of people can tease you and say stupid things, so I'd say this is one thing to prepare yourself for :))

What does your typical day look like in terms of mealtimes?

I usually have breakfast around 7.30- I like having more time to make yummy things on the weekend, so usually my weekday breakfasts are pretty weird haha. Lunch time is at 1;30 at school so I eat it then, and dinner around 7-ish. These tend to change in the holidays though :) I also have a few snacks and mini meals during the day

Would you say that changing your diet has had effects (both positive and negative) on your mental and physical wellbeing?

4)  I feel more positive since becoming vegan and it has really put things into perspective for me. I haven't really noticed many changes to my body as I didn't go vegan for that, but I do have more energy, feel less tired, and need less sleep.

What's your favourite thing about veganism?

5) My favourite thing about veganism would have to be knowing I am making a difference! I also love all the yummy vegan alternatives :))

Does your ethical attitude extend past the dinner table? Do you support cruelty free cosmetics and fair trade?

6) It definitely does! I've always considered myself an environmental and ethical person. I am very passionate about human rights and politics. I am extremely conscious about the environment, and plan to spend my life working for the world and its people. Although I don't wear makeup, I make sure all my items I use such as soap, toothpaste, etc, are cruelty-free, preferably vegan, zero waste, recyclable, etc. I support fair trade as well; I try not to buy unnecessary things, however, I ensure that anything I buy is either second-hand, or ethical and fair trade

Would you say that you have inspired anybody else to go vegan? How does this feel?

7) I don't think I've inspired anyone else to go full vegan, but 2 of my friends became vegetarian, which felt great! I think I've inspired some people around me to be more environmentally-friendly too, which makes me sosososososo happy!!! <3

There are lots of different 'fad' vegan diets out there. You are given the choice of either eating all carbs (like the potato diet) or all plants. What's the verdict?

8) I don't think I would ever choose, as I want to have enough nutrients and foods from all groups hahah

What's your go to vegan meal?

9) I have so many ahhh! But I especially love Asian food, so maybe something like a Thai Peanut or Pad Thai. I also love pasta and rice based dishes with lots of veggies! But I can't choose just one thing, but if I had to it would be some sort of Asian dish :)

And finally, what advice would you give to somebody who wants to make the switch to an all vegan diet?

10) Educate yourself! Watch documentaries, read up, etc. Prepare yourself for people asking lots of questions. Make sure you know all the things you need to eat. Make sure you will be getting enough calories. Talk to your parents and let them know about the lifestyle. Good luck! <3

So, what really goes into snail mail?


Snail mail (noun informal)
the ordinary postal system as opposed to email.


Life is full of many small pleasures like books and chocolate and cake... Another which is often overlooked is the art of writing and receiving letters! I know it makes me sound about eighty and that I should probably put my knitting away, but I believe that you cannot beat the clatter of a letterbox and the beauty of a handwritten note. Even the mere feeling of knowing that somebody out there has taken the time to think of me thrills me with joy. It fascinates me to look at the stamps on an envelope and to know how far it has come before landing in my hands.

And I'm not the only person who feels this way believe it or not. I write to five wonderful ladies from all around the globe, including New Zealand and the Philippines! These women have had huge influences on my life and for that I thank them all very much!

 Beth and I have been pen palling for over a year and therefore decided it would be fun to write a post on the subject from both perspectives. You can check her post out here!
For me, letters must include something exciting. Whether that be some butterfly doodles, glitter, Polaroids or even pressed flowers, this step is a must!

Here are some things you could try including in your next letter to spruce it up!:

 The business card of a company you want to support
♥ Bookmarks
♥ A photocopy of a drawing you were proud of
♥ An article in a magazine you think they'll love
♥ Local currency (check guidelines at your post office)
♥ A spritz of your favourite perfume 




Another thing I always keep in mind when writing is to not be afraid of rambling! If the receiver doesn't know what you've had for breakfast every day that week you're doing it wrong (kidding- but you get the point!). Say what you feel and ask lots of questions. There is not right or wrong way to snail mail and remember to always have fun!
